Sustainability

Sustainability is deeply embedded in Sodecon’s DNA. By purifying soils and groundwater, we make a direct contribution to a healthier environment. But we go further than that. We actively take responsibility for people and planet by making sustainable choices on multiple levels:

  • Innovation as a driver: We are constantly seeking innovative techniques that treat contaminated soils in situ. This allows us to offer more efficient, cost-conscious solutions – including for emerging challenges such as PFAS contamination.
  • Cooperation as the key to success: By working closely with site owners, consultants, and subcontractors, we develop sustainable, supported and effective solutions.
  • Team spirit and knowledge sharing: We invest in a positive work atmosphere, encourage commitment and provide our employees with the necessary training to continue to develop.
  • Contributing to a better world: We support initiatives and charities dedicated to people and the environment.
  • Resource efficiency: In all our activities, we strive for conscious and efficient use of energy, water, and materials.

At Sodecon, we believe that true sustainability happens when people, processes and technology work together for a healthier future. And that is what we are committed to every day.

Innovation as a response to complex challenges

The environmental problems we face are often too complex for standard solutions. That’s why Sodecon is strongly committed to site-specific, innovative solutions, supported by thorough lab and pilot testing. We combine technical expertise with creativity to develop an effective approach for each project.

Some examples of our innovative approach:

  • Mobile water treatment for PFAS contamination

At the request of a client, Sodecon developed a mobile water treatment plant for treating PFAS-contaminated groundwater at different locations within one site. Thanks to a clever combination of filter media, the residence time in the filters could be significantly reduced. This made it possible to build a compact plant with a capacity of 5 to 10 m³/h, mounted on a trailer capable of treating 15 µg/L PFAS – flexible and efficient.
  • Inclined injection wells under buildings

For a remediation project requiring injection of a carbon source, vertical drilling could not be performed at certain locations due to the presence of buildings. By adapting an inclined drilling technique, originally developed for installing anchor piles, Sodecon was able to install inclined injection filters under the buildings. This made it possible to perform injections without the need for infrastructure inside the buildings.
  • Use of sulfate for biodegradation of BTEX

When remediating a site contaminated with BTEX, Sodecon deliberately chose sulfate instead of oxygen to stimulate biodegradation. The advantage of sulfate is that it is highly soluble, does not react quickly with other soil components and remains active for a long time. This eliminates the need for continuous injection, improving the efficiency and sustainability of the technique. This approach has now been successfully applied to several projects.
